Acrylic carpet is a carpet made from acrylic fibers. Acrylic is a synthetic material and is like wool, albeit much cheaper. Acrylic carpets are factory made and are more of a budget tier carpet for those that are looking to get the look of wool but at a lower cost. Here are some of the pros and cons of acrylic carpet.

Pros:

It’s Cheap! — Acrylic carpet is one of the cheapest options out there. It’s great when you need to cover a lot of space, like for a large apartment complex.

Hypoallergenic — Acrylic carpet is synthetic, but it won’t cause any issues with allergies, which makes it great for any household worried about bringing in allergens.

Moth Resistant — Acrylic carpet is completely immune to those pesky moths that like to eat other types of carpet. Since it’s made from synthetic materials, the moths will stay away!

Cons:

Not Stain Resistant — Acrylic carpet tends to accumulate dirt and grease stains, and if you don’t try to remove them quickly, they’ll be there forever. If installing this carpet, make sure you’re quick on the clean up if anything gets on it.

Low Lifespan — Acrylic carpet is not nearly as durable as wool and tends to wear down much quicker than most other carpets. Over time acrylics fibers will deteriorate, and the carpet will become fuzzy.

There are plenty of pros and cons of acrylic carpet. If you’re looking for something that’s not going to break the bank, acrylic is certainly worth taking a look.
